The modern-day Iranian town of Qazvin was formerly known in England as Kasvin. It was described in the early part of the 20th century as 'a fair-sized town with primitive pretensions to civilization, including one very wide tree lined street and a series of long covered-in galleries which formed the bazaar'. After the end of the First World War Qazvin was used as a base in 1919 and 1920 for the British Norperforce (North Persia Force) and it was during this period, to relieve the tedium, that the British forces organized race meetings. One such meeting, the Kasvin Peace Week Meeting, was staged on Saturday 6th September 1919, with a racecard from that meeting shown below courtesy of Vinny Hinde. |
